Innovation

In the development of its many systems, Stationnement de Montréal favours innovative solutions that take advantage of the latest technologies to maximize efficiency and easy of use while minimizing environmental impact.

Pay and Go Pay Stations

The Pay and Go concept was designed to improve customer service and accommodate the specific climate of Montréal.

These pay stations offers many advantages to users, including:
  • The pay station is in service only during chargeable hours. Users cannot pay when parking is free, prohibited or reserved.
  • You may pay with a credit card.
  • All Canadian coins are accepted.
  • The pay station generates a ticket that indicates expiry time and serves as proof of payment.
  • There is no need to return to your vehicle to display the ticket.
  • You may pay at any station in the sector where you are parked.
  • The pay station reminds drivers of regulations concerning “no parking” zones and reserved lanes.

As well, the system is resistant to tough Montréal winters, independent and environmentally-friendly:
  • stations are entirely solar-powered.
  • wireless communication for the computerized detection of infractions.

The Public Bike System

The Public Bike System developed by Stationnement de Montréal for the Ville de Montréal is more advanced than any other system currently in use anywhere in the world. A concept created entirely in Montréal, BIXI takes advantage of cutting-edge technologies to offer unrivaled flexibility along with minimum environmental impact.

For the user, the system is most importantly practical and easy to use:
  • information on the availability of bikes and bike docks (where bikes are housed) is available in real time via the Internet.
  • quick rental needing no intermediary with a BIXI-key or a credit card.
  • transactional pay stations with a touchscreen.
  • passcard holders can get the bike of their choice quickly right at the bike dock.
  • the system permits users, through the bike dock interface, to alert the system that a bike is damaged or defective and to choose another one quickly and rapidly.
  • possibility of paying for Pay and Go parking spaces.

The bike and pay station components were specially created by renowned international designer Michel Dallaire:
  • unique design with clean lines and a sleek look.
  • integrates harmoniously into the urban landscape.
  • very stable bike suitable for a wide range of riders.
  • sturdy, durable and safe.

The stations are composed of a pay station and bike docks (where bikes are housed) that are entirely modular and totally portable. All elements are “plug’n play” and can be connected to create a virtually infinite station, and are made to function independently:
  • 100% solar-powered.
  • RFID – Radio-frequency controlled – wireless real-time connection.
  • as soon the stations are dropped off, they’re ready to go into service.
